BBW Study-oriented FactoriesCurrent position:Home >BBW Study-oriented Factories

bbw is the only educational institution in eastern Germany to own study-oriented factories. “Study-oriented factories” are simulated workplaces where in studentswork as “employees” and subsequently learn the technical and practical skillsrequired to succeed in their field of labor. The simulated jobs provided by these factories are nearly identical to real jobs offered by real companies.Students are expected to work in these simulated environments with the samefocus and vigor as they would in a real job.

In these factories, students can apply theoretical knowledge in actual practice.Upon entering the study-oriented factories, students are expected to work asothers do in real workplaces. Learning is working, and students must havehands-on experience in order to understand the quality and requirements of goodprofessional work. In these factories, students become skilled in specificpractices and learn the related techniques and management skills required by their field of labor. Moreover, their learning abilities, social skills andintegrative competence will be strengthened in the process. Meanwhile, teachers in these study-oriented factories function as operators and trainers, who arerequired to finish projects with students and guide them in their operations.

At present, bbw Group and the Dongguan Technician College haveco-founded several study-oriented factories together. As an example, Dongguan Quality Institution has set up asimulated workplace program in the field of CNC and mechatronics, whereinteachers act as operators who ensure the completion of all production tasks bystudents. Teachers in this program focus on cultivating the practical and professionalabilities of students; students, in turn, gain an authentic awareness of whatit takes to be a worker, as they must actively plan, think and cooperate withregulations in their working environment. It must be noted, however, that theworking experience is not allsimulated; all learning factories receive realorders to process; the training sites are built in accordance with real factory standards; themanufacturing process is nearly identical to that of a real factory. It isthrough this integration of study and practice that students become prepared forthe workplace directly after graduation (and companies save on costs oftraining new employees).
